How to play
The rules for each table, exactly as the cards play here, with six small tables to try them on.
Klondike
Klondike, Draw 1
- Build the four foundations up by suit, from ace to king.
- In the seven columns, build down in alternating colours. Any face-up run in that order can move together.
- Only a king, or a run headed by a king, can go into an empty column.
- Tap the stock to turn one card onto the waste. When the stock runs out, tap it again to turn the waste back over in the same order. Passes are unlimited.
- A face-down card turns over when the cards on it move away.
- A card can come back down from a foundation onto a column.
- Once every card in the columns is face up, the table plays the rest out for you when it can.
Klondike, Draw 3
- Everything works as in Draw 1, except the stock turns over three cards at a time.
- Only the top card of the waste can be played; play it to reach the one beneath.
- When the stock runs out, the waste turns back over in the same order. Each card you played changes how the next packets fall.
- Passes through the stock are unlimited.
FreeCell
FreeCell, Classic
- All 52 cards are dealt face up into eight columns. There are four free cells and four foundations.
- Build the foundations up by suit, from ace to king. Cards never come back from a foundation.
- Build the columns down in alternating colours.
- A free cell holds any one card. Any card or ordered run can go into an empty column.
- You can move (free cells + 1) × 2 to the power of empty columns cards at once; into an empty column, count one fewer empty column.
- Cards that nothing still in play could need go to the foundations by themselves.
Spider
Spider, 1 suit
- 104 cards, all spades. Ten columns: 54 cards dealt with the top card of each column face up, and 50 in the stock.
- Any card can go on a card one rank higher.
- An ordered run moves together; in one suit, every ordered run qualifies.
- Any card or run can go into an empty column.
- Tap the stock to deal one card onto every column. It won’t deal while a column is empty.
- A full run from king to ace leaves the table by itself. Clear eight runs to win.
Spider, 2 suits
- 104 cards in two suits, spades and hearts, dealt as in one-suit Spider.
- Any card can go on a card one rank higher, whatever its suit.
- Only a run of one suit, in order, moves together; a mixed run has to be taken apart.
- Any card or same-suit run can go into an empty column.
- Tap the stock to deal one card onto every column. It won’t deal while a column is empty.
- A full king-to-ace run in one suit leaves the table by itself. Clear eight runs to win.
Try the rules
Klondike: build down in alternating colours
Drag or tap a card onto another column, or use the buttons. Try the six of clubs too.
Klondike Draw 3: packets of three
Turn the stock. Only the top card of the waste can be played.
FreeCell: how many cards can move at once
Try moving the run of four onto the ten of spades. Then free some cells and try again.
FreeCell: safe cards go home by themselves
Move the nine of clubs and watch what happens to the hearts beneath it.
Spider: only one suit moves together
Two suits here, spades and hearts. Try to lift all three cards from the eight of spades.
Spider: no dealing onto an empty column
One column is empty. Try the stock, then fill the gap and try again.
The daily table
- A new table opens every day at 00:00 UTC: stop one is Klondike Draw 1, stop two classic FreeCell, stop three one-suit Spider. Winning stops one and two completes the route; Spider is optional.
- Your run of days grows when you win at least one stop of the day’s table on that day. A stop you started on the day still counts if you finish it by 02:00 UTC.
- Tables from the archive are for replaying. They go in your journal but never change your run of days.
- Your place is saved as you play, per stop and per deal, so you can leave and come back.
Questions
- Can every deal be won?
- Every starting deal here has a winning line: a solver found one and it was replayed move by move under the same rules before the deal was published. Once you have made moves, your position may no longer be winnable. Undo goes all the way back to the deal.
- When does the daily table change?
- At 00:00 UTC every day. The home page shows when that is in your time zone.
- How does the run of days work?
- A day counts when you win at least one stop of that day’s table on the day. If you started a stop before midnight UTC, you have until 02:00 UTC to finish it. Past tables from the archive never count, and winning a stop twice counts once.
- Why are some hints called solver hints?
- In Klondike and Spider some cards are face down. Hints there come from a solver that knows where every card is, so a hint can point you to a card you have not seen yet. FreeCell hints use only what is on the table, because every card is face up.
- Do I need an account?
- No. Your saves, journal and run of days stay in this browser on this device. Nothing about your games is sent anywhere.
- Is this connected to my Puzzle Desk progress?
- No. Solitaire Club is a separate site with its own saves. Puzzle Desk progress stays on Puzzle Desk.
